Wisdom Teeth. What You Should Know if They Become Impacted.

Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the last permanent teeth to appear (erupt) in the mouth. These teeth usually appear between the ages of 13 and 25. Some people never develop wisdom teeth. For others, wisdom teeth erupt normally — just as their other molars did — and cause no problems.

We asked our resident Board Certified Oral Surgeon, Dr. Junil Ahn, "What do I do if I'm experiencing pain?

In short, if a wisdom tooth doesn't have room to grow it may become impacted, resulting in pain, infection or other dental problems, you'll likely need to have it pulled. Numerous scientific studies have shown that even in fully erupted wisdom teeth, the bacteria and periodontal condition are unhealthy. It is recommended to have the wisdom teeth removed prior to these problems arising. It is ideal to have wisdom teeth evaluated for removal in the teenage years.

At South Coast Metro Center for Dentistry & Implants our Board Certified team of oral surgeons will assess your situation and give you the tools to make an informed decision. Our goal is to help you "Find Your Smile and Brighten Your World". Contact us today to schedule your wisdom tooth consultation.
